Cave Weta

Cave Weta
There are more than 60 species of Cave Weta living in New Zealand.

Habitat:
Cave Weta are extremely rare and found in certain places such as in a damp cave, not often but under houses, under stones, in logs and sometimes in coal mines.

Appearance:
Cave Wetas have large black legs that are used to jump up to 2 meters. Above their head they have long antennas to feel around in the cave. They weigh up to 3.5 kilos and are 335mm in length that is including their legs and antennas. Cave Weta are known to be the only weta that do not have ears. They do not communicate or make sounds. They have a large head that contains their eyes and their strong jaw.

Life Cycle:
A female Cave Weta can lay up to 6 eggs, in a whole lifetime they can lay up to 3oo eggs. Only a female has a spike she uses it to lay the eggs. An egg takes 1 month to hatch and once it has it takes 18 months to become an adult. The Cave Wetas have been around since dinosaurs.

Diet:
The Cave Weta is an omnivore and it has a range of food that it eats such as plants, fruit, leaves, and dead insects.

Predators:
It has many predators like weka, kiwi, reptiles, but most commonly the Cave Wetas biggest threat are rats and bats.
Cave Wetas sleep at the top of the cave so their predators can’t get them at daytime but if the predator is in the cave or other habitat the weta will sometimes leap on them.
They are nocturnal insects but when the wetas go out at night they are in more danger because they have to get food which means thats when they are likely to die from a suprize of rats or bats bouncing on them.

Population:
The Cave Weta can live from 2-7 years and have different species all over New Zealand, South Africa and South America. They are related to grasshoppers and crickets as well.

The wetas have been around for centuries but are endangered because of their habitats being damaged and destroyed.

Cube

For maths we had to build a cuboid with our buddy then we had to take a picture and send it to ourselves. Once we had claimed it from our emails we had to open it with paint. Our job was to find the perimeter and area. We had to show our workings and add the blocks squared or other wise it could be any thing.  It was a simple job and it was a great idea for maths.

Hawkes Bay earthquake

On 3 February 1931, New Zealand’s deadliest earthquake devastated the cities of Napier and Hastings, Hawke’s Bay. At least 256 people died in the magnitude 7.8 earthquake: 161 in Napier, 93 in Hastings, and two in Wairoa. Many thousands more required medical treatment.

At 10.47am on 3 February 1931, a violent shock, followed closely by a second, rocked Hawke’s Bay for almost three minutes. A tanker at sea felt a violent vibration, and the seamen on board looked to the shore to see Napier covered by a cloud of rising dust.

The HMS Veronica had just tied up in Napier’s inner harbour when the earthquake hit. Captain Morgan at first thought there had been an explosion on board, but then saw the wharf twisting, and beyond it houses and other buildings crumpling to the ground.

Dust rose in clouds from the shattered buildings, making it difficult for people to breathe, and huge splits in the roads appeared.
Panic-stricken, people ran down to the beaches where they hoped to be safe. As the water in the bay receded with the rising of the land, many thought that a tsunami was on the way, but this was not the case.

The nurses’ home in Napier, built only a year before, collapsed, killing 12 of the nurses. A rest home was destroyed and 14 elderly men who lived there were killed. The Napier Boy’s High School assembly hall was severely damaged, but fortunately all of the boys had left the building. However, at Napier Technical College ten boys and two teachers died when a room collapsed on them.
The courtroom became the morgue where bodies were laid out to be identified by relatives.
Emergency hospitals were set up, but the doctors and nurses were limited in what they could do to help the injured because of a lack of medical supplies. Back-up medical teams were sent from Auckland on board Navy ships, and from Wellington by train.

The test tube

In a small town named shadyville, one gloomy night when all the children were sleeping and there parents were busy doing the things adults do, unaware there was a man named Dr McHairy bottom was trying to mix up a potion to destroy every little child. Every time Dr McHairy bottom tried to make his potion all the mixture leaked out the grimy cracks of his thick glass test tube. He failed because of this despicable test tube but he couldn't bare to go to their filthy town with the many ugly creatures running around shoeless so he just cursed every time he failed. Dr Mchairy bottom is a crude distorted man with baggy brown clothes and bright green shoes he lives near a very ghastly village.
"Well that's what he says"

Anyway his house is a dark mystical place and any child that enters doesn't come back. His house is as tall as the eiffel tower it's plain black no windows he hates to see dreadful faces stare at his unwanted house

Last Halloween Dr McHairy bottom found an iPad laying in a pile of thorns he stumbled inside throwing the iPad on the table not knowing what it's worth. Days later he walked past the iPad then took some few steps back and pressed many buttons which led him to online shopping, looking at all the junk Dr Mchairy bottom finally found something useful a brand new test tube as quickly as possible he added it to the cart. In seconds a application popped up asking if he would like it delivered to his doorstep
"well we all know the answer to that"
Minutes were wasted and Dr Mchairy bottom sat on a rocking chair next to the front door waiting to claim his prize suddenly they arrived with the package asking for notes but Dr Mchairy bottom paid with buttons and fluff without a complaint took the package and slammed the door. Every year DrMchairy bottom was happy with his never failing potions and slowly made kids disappear sadly he's still working on his evil laugh.

Gails green undies

One slow normal day in a town called, Blueberry Fish. There was was a middle aged woman named Gail. Now Gail was no normal middle aged woman she was a teency bit weird, because Gail only had 10 pairs of undies all lime green except for one pair, One pair of her undies were dark green witch she did not like ! So she never wore the dreadful undies. “You think that she would just throw them out but nooo!” Those ugly undies are still in her bottom drawer.” Weird right”.

“So anyway back to the story”. One dark creepy night in Gail’s wooden lounge, the TV was still going and Gail was dozing off slowly, then suddenly a fish knuckle cat snuck into the house and snatched the lime green undies then tiptoed out the window leaving the dark green undies untouched. At 6 am Gail woke up slouched out on the couch with the TV still going. Slowly as she dragged her own body upstairs she noticed that all her lime green undies were gone so she did the only thing she could think of........
Gail put on her dark green dusty undies, changed her clothes and out the creaky door. Once Gail has done her daily town chores then she will find her lime green undies !!! so off went to the hairdressers.

20 minutes went past and Gail was in the hairdressers. She sits down and lets out a howl whoooooo!!! she had sat on a bunch of pink curlers. Now crankier than ever, pushed open the door stomped out and slammed it behind her. But Gail had no clue that the elastic in her dark green undies had wrapped around the curlers in the murky hairdressers. As the day went flying past Gail stormed over to the doctors then she slowly walked up the stairs to see her doctor named Doctor Just Hold. When Gail finally got up the stairs she pushed open the door cutting the elastic in her undies when the door closed. Suddenly the elastic in the hairdressers went flying around the room tripping over Mrs Scorpio the hairdresser.Meanwhile at the doctors Gail had an embarrassing moment, her undies had fallen down with no elastic inside them. Shaking with embarrassment Gail quickly pulled up her undies. After the doctor was finished with his other patient he asked the receptionist for Gail to come back in the room. But he wasn't comfortable with a undieless lady in his office so Gail had to leave without her medicine. The next stop was the coffee club because gail needed to pick up the hot chocolate to spill on the robber so she stumbled over to the shop. Once she got there the manager gave her a free hot chocolate for all Gails bad luck. Finally her town chores were done she could go home to find some evidence and eliminate some people that didn't do the crime. But what Gail did not know is that a human was not the robber.

Anyway she was inspecting her house for hours she even said no to a cup of tea with her old lady friends. So Gail found nothing not a trace not even a single fingerprint. (probably because the robber had no finger it had paws). Gail finally gave up she had enough suddenly she noticed the window was open and there was fur all over the mat Gail thought for while and then she screamed “it was BIGFOOT”. Once she knew who it was she confronted him and they went to court. Sadly gail lost the trial because bigfoot had a great singing voice and that was more powerful than Gails words. They could not think of anymore furry creatures so they gave up everything. Many years later Gail got a note and a goody basket full of treats. The note said,

Dear Gail sorry for all my troubleness and stuff
I was wrong to rob you.
sincerely fish knuckle cat.

The cat was stupid by the way.
Anyway no one knew why the cat confronted himself but it was weird because they never saw him again some say he works for the homeless and some say that he helps at the retirement home no one cares anyway.
Everything was back to normal.
Oh and Gail never got her undies back.

Box of chocolates

On Wednesday, Mrs Hinde gave us a maths problem She said we have to design a box to fit 12 or 18 smaller cubes we had to have the right measurements and no gaps. Our box was made out of paper. Heaps of people struggled with it and had start over I didn't have to start over but I was trying to make a box for 12 and ended up having to add an extra 6 to make a box of 18.

Here is a photo of my box

Blood!!

WHIRIIL!! the wind blew heavily. Hand in hand with my little sister we trotted down the path covering our faces from the thick amounts of rain pouring down from the stormy black clouds. I let go slightly to see if my mum was far behind. Thats when it happened!!!

My frightened little sister had fallen dramatically to the ground ripping her lip with her own front teeth. I ran faster than lightning to catch her .Once I had caught up she had a flabbergasting, ear pitching scream that had echoed all the way through the forests of te mata peak. I found out that she had a dreadful gash right across her chin that was oozing blood dripping so much that I could feel the pain. I picked her up and gave her a huge hug not letting go until my mum and nana had come to help. We finished the walk in a record time feeding the blood to the one tissue we had. Shortly we were back at the car and the tissue was useless now falling apart with stains of red all over it. Thats when we found out there wasn’t a box of tissues in the car all there was, was a white blanket from our dead Grandma. We had no choice if there was a single drop of blood on my nanas car she would freak. So we had to risk it.

The ride home was tremendously exhausting and painful for everyone. Cassidy was screaming the whole way home her face had gone red and blended in with the blood falling on the blanket.

We had finally reached town and my sister was sort of calming down. The blanket looked dreadful but you could sort of see my sisters chin now. We were so close to town that a smile grew on my nanas face it looked like she was in wonderland and her wish had come true, Peace and quiet.

Well we rushed in and the doctor took us straight away he said it was serious and we would be waiting a while because she will need stitches (stretched that a bit). Anyway later that day cassidy was pale as normal and she was perfectly fine. Ok it kind of annoyed me that whenever she wanted something and mum said no in a booming voice, Cassidy would say her chin hurts and well we all know what happened next.

Ancient Egypt

  Pyramids
The ancient egyptians built pyramids as tombs for the pharaohs and their queens. The pharaohs were buried in pyramids of many different shapes and sizes.

There are about eighty pyramids known today from ancient Egypt.

The most well-known of these pyramids was built for the pharaoh Khufu, It is known as the Great Pyramid. It it the only one of the 7 wonders of the ancient world still in existence.

Mummies and gods
Ordinary people were not mummified because it was too expensive only the royal family or top officials could afford it. But archeologists have found millions of animal mummies. These were animals that represented a particular god or goddess. These animals included cats, dogs, birds, baboons and crocodiles.

Osiris
god of the dead
osiris ruled over egyptians and taught them what fruit were ok and what would kill them and how to plant crops and bury seeds. He would wear mummy wrappings to suit his role of being a god and he had green skin to show he was a vegetarian. Osiris was not evil and would not use his powers to get his own way.

Thoth
god of wisdom, time, writing, knowledge
Thoth invented hieroglyphs, the picture writing of Ancient Egypt. He was the person that measured the earth and counted the stars he held all the knowledge and recorded it all in a book.

hieroglyphics used pictures to represent different objects, actions, sound or ideas. There were more than 700 hieroglyphs. Some pictures stood for whole words.

The Egyptians did not write vowels and did not use any punctuation.

Bastet
daughter of Ra, protector of cats
Bastet is the goddess of cats. She has the head of a cat, but originally she had the head of a lion.

The Ancient Egyptians respected cats because they protected the grain from mice and rats. Killing a cat was horrible and you would be truly punished by death

Egyptian buildings

Although ancient Egyptians built their pyramids (tombs) and temples out of stone, they build their palaces and houses out of mud brick. Mud brick is cheap and kept the ancient egyptians warm in winter. Almost all the houses have crumbled to the ground or vanished.

Class data

This is a graph showing what culture the people in my class are.

I tried hard but I think next time I could improve by showing it an easier way so the readers will understand instantly what it means. Next time I could also try using a pie graph or some other graph to show it differently than this way.
